W*
One of the last representatives of the great Italian school of basses,
Roberto Scandiuzzi is considered the finest "noble bass" on the
international operatic scene. He made his debut at La Scala in Le nozze
di Figaro under the baton of Riccardo Muti and gained international
acclaim as Fiesco in Simon Boccanegra at London’s Covent Garden,
conducted by Sir Georg Solti. Since then, he has performed regularly in the
world’s most prestigious opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in
New York, the Opéra de Paris, the Wiener Staatsoper, and the Bayerische
Staatsoper, working with conductors such as Abbado, Davis, Gergiev, Levine,
Luisi, Maazel, Mehta, Muti, Ozawa, Pappano, Prêtre, Sinopoli, Solti, and
Viotti.
